Zakkia introduces new season range
Zakkia, the homewares brand that found success with its ‘Scandinavia meets Bondi’ aesthetic, has branched out into handmade tableware with its latest range, 2016: Collection 01.
Fans of the brand will recognise the Scandi-influenced colour palette of greys, lavender and pink that feature across the stoneware and ceramic bowls, oversized mugs, spoons and containers, while a new seagrass tone adds a point of difference.
Zakkia founder Sara Lundgren says the collection was inspired by the Swedish word ‘mys’, which describes a cosy and complete feeling.
“I began designing 2016: Collection 01 on a recent trip home to Sweden where I enjoyed the cosy feeling of being around my family and friends,” she explains.
“I wanted to translate this cosy feeling through the raw texture and rounded shapes of the new collection. We decided to create mugs, bowls and spoons this season so that people could enjoy design in everyday life.”
The handcrafted range has been manufactured in Vietnam, and Lundgren says Zakkia works closely with its partners. In fact, she has been in Hanoi for the past week developing new material finishes with the experienced craftspeople.
“Our Vietnamese team have been working with ceramics for almost a thousand years, and their skills are invaluable to the quality of the finished product,” she says. “They were the natural choice to collaborate with on the new collection.”
The brand—which is exhibiting at Life Instyle Sydney this February—has also launched a new range of travel accessories, including leather pouches and organisers, that Lundgren hopes will help fellow “messy travellers” to stay organised.
“I’ve always had a bit of a travel bug and sometimes find organising my suitcase a bit of a project. I hope these organisers can help other messy travellers out there.”
The products will hit stockists’ shelves in March.
