Winter 2015 collection from mimi&me
The latest collection from Sydney-based accessories label mimi&me is perfect for winter, featuring cold weather colours including grey and navy.
With a background in sales and marketing, Julia Hill started mimi&me in 2006 after failing to find interesting yet affordable accessories. The brand is also a tribute to her grandma Mimi, who was always impeccably accessorised. “She was a sassy, gregarious woman whose sense of style was a huge inspiration,” says Hill.
For mimi&me’s latest collection, Hill was inspired by the extremely popular Scandinavian look, combining shades of grey, naturals and white. “I have also featured on trend navy—a colour that I am very happy to see make a resurgence,” she says.
As the chief designer, Hill is involved in all aspects of jewellery design, and works with her suppliers to produce interesting styles. “I am always looking to include any new techniques they have,” she explains. “The pieces come from all over Asia—different countries excel in different manufacturing due mainly to the raw materials available to them.”
In the years she has been in business, Hill says there have been many highlights, especially creating new collections. “I love the excitement of starting a new range and exploring new techniques that can be used to create unique looks.
“I also enjoy showing the range for the first time and seeing how the range is received and hearing feedback from my customers. The biggest challenge is staying new and fresh—customers want to see new pieces that will excite them and their customers.”
Along with her jewellery line, Hill also recently launched a fashion range called Julia Hill. “This has created a new learning curve, but one that is really enjoyable,” she adds.
