The Stretch Stick launches in Australia
As the rise of sustainability and the demand for recyclable products continues to heat up, eco-friendly alternatives keep popping up, some more stylish than others.
The Stretch Stick is a super cute, collapsible metal drinking straw, designed to help Australians enjoy their drinks at their own pace while they’re out and about, says founder Diana Gligorov.
The 30-year-old Sydney local says the recurring problem of the dreaded soggy straw motivated her to create a premium straw line.
“I would be out at a restaurant with my girlfriends or grabbing an iced coffee at work and drinking through a paper straw was such an irritating experience,” she explains.
“Rather than being able to savour every sip of your drink, a paper straw practically forces you to drink quickly or not at all.
“It’s a first world problem but a cocktail costs close to $30 nowadays and especially in this economy I do not believe we should be rushed through it.
“I had a look at what was available on the market and I couldn’t find a sustainable, dependable, aesthetically appealing drinking straw that met all environmental, functional and lifestyle customer needs.”
The former Commonwealth bank senior risk manager was recently made redundant and is using her payout to fund her business with the hope to expand the product range to include more products that significantly improve the user experience of other existing eco products that exist today.
She says the Stretch Stick’s functionality makes it convenient and easy to use anywhere and everywhere as it differentiates itself further from other reusable straws on the market through its cute, compact case and ‘stretch to your cup size’ ability.
“Each Stretch Stick comes in a cute, mascara-like case that you can easily throw into your bag or attach to your keychain so you can savour every sip (sustainably) while you are out and about,” she adds.
“To use, simply open the case, expand the Stretch Stick according to your cup size and sip via the silicone tip.
“Once your drink is finished, simply clean with the collapsible brush included or pop the Stretch Stick back into its case to clean at home later.”
