The real world (continued…)
When selecting their artists, Chu and Azzi look for a certain uniqueness that still fits within the La La Land community.
“We try to pick artists that have something unique, whether in their style or subject they choose. We also try to introduce products that people need, products that can be gifted easily with the assurance that they’ll be used. We always source products that will be able to retail at a reasonable price as we want all La La Land products to be affordable.”
La La Land, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, has expanded its product offering substantially this year to keep up with demand and grow the company and its portfolio.
“In addition to our in-house designers, we publish 50 artists and illustrators, so there is something for everyone. Our best-sellers tend to be featuring Australian themes and in particular featuring koalas.”
Indeed, Australiana, says Chu, has been immensely successful for the company and he doesn’t see it ending any time soon. “We can foresee a stronger demand for ecofriendly products and even more Australiana imagery. I personally think there is more and more interest in contemporary Aboriginal art.”
But also recyclable items are a big part of La La Land’s offering. “We always try to make products that are durable, reusable or made from sustainable material whenever possible. We are always trying to improve in this area. We also try to launch products that replace single use products, like our eco coffee cans and shopping bags, which hopefully will be followed by more reusable products.”
Another trend that has impacted the brand in a positive way is the resurgence of paper products. Stationery, notebook and diaries have become popular again with consumers looking for something familiar in a world dominated by technology.
“We have definitely noticed this trend! We are launching more and more old school organisational paper goods such as notebooks in various sizes, calendars and a new diary for 2019 that sold out before even landing in our warehouse,” Chu enthuses.
La La Land offers a variety of styles and this will continue in 2019. “We will have a lot more new artworks and products. We also have a few exciting projects up our sleeves to celebrate our 10-year anniversary! Look out for a celebratory exhibition and more…” Watch this space!
