Sandra Boynton’s quirky new greeting cards to be launched in February
due for release at the february life instyle trade show in sydney, the new greeting card collection from sandra boynton is sure to attract plenty of retailers looking for left-of-centre cards with an eccentric edge.
“as a personality, she is remarkably quirky and clever, which is echoed through her lyrical and clever designs,” says boynton’s australian distributor and managing director of spirit publishing, mary bradner.
renowned for the hand drawn characters that she has been creating since the mid-1970s, boynton has since designed between 4,000 and 6,000 different cards and sold over 10 million copies worldwide of her most famous birthday card, ‘hippo birdie two ewes’.
boynton has also extended her talent to writing and illustrating books and producing music, and she has high hopes for her cards in the australian market.
“my hopes for the australian market are that there will be such an unprecedented upwelling of adoration for my cards (and, by association, for me) that the populace will, with one voice and that exceedingly cool australian accent, demand that i come for a visit,” boynton jokes.
as boynton’s australian distributor, bradner of spirit publishing is also confident the new range will be a great success.
“we tested the range in sydney gift shops and it was a smash hit,” bradner says.
“the cute and non-gender specific cards appeal to young and old, male and female. the quick pocket turnaround confirmed that the legend of hippo and birdie is as popular as ever, appealing to many australians’ childhood memories of their very first birthday card.”
spirit publishing will launch 36 cards next month and expand boynton’s range as she produces new designs in the future.
recommended retail prices for the greeting cards are $5.50 and spirit publishing distributes to department stores, bookstores, high-end newsagencies and specialty gift stores throughout australia.
