Pyrex releases limited-edition anniversary range
Iconic kitchen brand Pyrex is celebrating its centenary year with the release of a limited-edition anniversary collection.
The special range will include Pyrex’s renowned measuring jug—the company’s most popular product with over 75 million sold worldwide— a pie plate and glass storage containers with a colourful dot pattern.
Pyrex has come a long way from its humble beginnings, and was originally used by Corning Glass Works as a strengthened glass for lantern globes on railways. When the wife of a Corning Glass employee used a piece of the glass to bake a cake, it was discovered that Pyrex produced a shorter cooking time and more uniform baking, and led to the creation of glass bakeware.
In Australia, more than 65 million Pyrex products have been sold, with an estimated one in five households owning a piece of the glass.
Kylie McKinnon, general manager at World Kitchen Australia, which markets Pyrex, believes the brand is synonymous with quality kitchenware. “The original line of Pyrex bakeware included 12 items which revolutionised home cooking worldwide, many of which are still available today,” she says. “The current glass casserole dish, loaf pan, pie plate and custard cup are all examples of products that have stood the test of time.
“One hundred years ago the team behind the Pyrex brand created the glass baking category and we believe the next generation of family cooks will continue to use Pyrex glass for 100 years to come.”
As part of its anniversary celebrations, Pyrex has partnered with dessert queen and baking sensation Katherine Sabbath, and has created a giant, world record breaking measuring jug that is travelling across the United States.
The Pyrex anniversary collection will be in stores from April 2015.
