Papier d’Amour expands wholesale range
After an encouraging showing at the August Life Instyle trade fair, popular paper goods shop Papier d’Amour, based in Sydney’s Double Bay, is expanding its wholesale range to keep up with demand.
New products include removable neon and metallic confetti dots that can be used to decorate walls, gold foiled prints that say things like ‘champagne is always the answer’, and mini marquee lights.
“The Life Instyle fair this year was the most successful we have had to date,” says Papier d’Amour owner Phoebe Gazal. “Although I have been a retailer for nine years, wholesale is relatively new territory for us.”
Gazal began Papier d’Amour in 2006 after completing a design degree and working in large advertising agencies. “I decided to open a store where we not only designed bespoke stationery for weddings and events, but sold special stationery bits and pieces sourced from around the world,” she says. “Basically I have turned my love of stationery and design into a career.
“Now we have a head office in Alexandria where we design bespoke stationery, our own ranges and run our online store.”
Gazal believes that increasing Papier d’Amour’s wholesale offering will be successful because she knows the market. “We are in direct contact with the customer, as well as having a clear idea of gaps in the market,” she says.
After seeing what sells well in the store, Gazal is able to offer retailers products she knows customers will love. “Our foiled prints have certainly hit the spot,” she says. “Both their uniqueness and price point work really well.”
While Papier d’Amour is growing its wholesale customer base, Gazal says it is important that the “product is in the right stores surrounded by other beautiful products. This will help us maintain longevity in the marketplace over time.”
