Oprah names Corkcicle one of her favourite things
the icicle shaped wine accessory that keeps wine chilled from the inside has won a coveted spot on oprah winfrey’s favourite things list for 2012.
“don’t you just love a good gadget?” she says. “no need for an ice bucket when you pull the corkcicle out of the freezer and insert it into any bottle of wine that needs to stay cool. talk about chilling.”
distributed in australia by beyondcool, the corkcicle will feature in both o magazine and a two hour tv special that aired in the us last week.
“we are over the moon and also very humbled to have the corkcicle featured on oprah’s 2012 list and to be endorsed by oprah herself,” says teena townsend, beyondcool partner and marketing director. “the list has become an annual tradition in the us – both for publication in her magazine and online and also on the tv feature. it reaches a wide audience internationally and it is very exciting to be a part of it.”
while it’s not known exactly what made oprah pick the product, it’s thought her love of food and entertaining played a part as well as its price and innovation.
us co-inventor and partner of the corkcicle, stephen brunner, says the impact of having the wine accessory featured on oprah’s famous list is wide reaching.
“oprah attracts an international audience,” he explains. “we’re already seeing an impact on direct and retail sales since oprah’s favourite things list was published in early november. consumers worldwide are seeking us on the web and in the stores. retailers are sharing the news with their customers and corkcicles are flying off the shelves – we are hearing this from our entire retail network, australia included. internationally, consumers want a part of oprah. the corkcicle provides a ‘six degrees of oprah’ effect.”
the corkcicle is now sold by more than 500 australian retailers.
