Miss Cesko table two-time design award finalist
designer david hardwick has been named a finalist in two design exhibitions for his miss cesko table.
he is entered in workshopped 11 and launchpad 2011 for the doily inspired creation he made for hardwick & cesko, but says he doesn’t know why he made the final round.
“i’m not sure to tell you the truth,” he says. “looking at the other products that i’m up against they are much more clean and that kind of traditional designer look… but maybe they’re just looking for something a bit different, more detail and i think also the warmth of the timber is something that is attractive to people.”
hardwick is thrilled to be nominated for such prestigious titles and believes it is the best way for designers to get their name and creations noticed by the public.
“the launch pad exhibition is probably one of the biggest awards for young designers in australia apart from the bombay sapphire awards. they’re probably one of the biggest awards on the design calendar. it’s quite exciting to be involved.
“the [finalists are] not big names because [this is] the way to get your name out there and establish yourself. the people i’ve seen in there have been involved in some other competitions and exhibitions but they’re all i guess emerging talents.”
the idea for the table was sparked by visits to the family home of hardwick’s wife who has a croatian background. inspired by the doily and crocheted items used to decorate the house hardwick wanted to find a way to use that kind of pattern and detail in a contemporary setting.
miss cesko will be on display at the workshopped exhibition in surry hills until august 13 and launch pad finalists exhibition at saturday in design on august 19 and 20 at the living edge showroom.
