Marcus & Marcus launches Limited Edition koala bib
In a bid to help the koalas in Australia, Marcus & Marcus is launching a Limited Edition bib, donating a percentage of each sale to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital.
When Marcus & Marcus founder, Candy Leung, was holidaying in Australia with her family in 2019, they experienced first-hand the devastating effect of the bushfires and drought on the country’s wildlife.
“My two boys Marcus and Lucas had a wonderful time in Melbourne last Christmas and it was the boys’ first koala encounter experience in the zoo,” Leung explains.
“When we told them about the dreadful bushfires that were happening in Australia and how the koalas were being affected, they were very upset. As a parent, we hope the koalas can be saved as we feel deeply how painful it would be if the koala babies are being separated from their parents due to the bushfires.”
The family was so touched by what had happened in Australia, Leung’s husband Stanley wondered if Marcus & Marcus could make a donation to help with the animal treatments and recovery.
After further discussions they came up with the idea of the Limited Edition koala bib.
“As a baby brand founder of Marcus & Marcus, we hope we can support the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital by designing a koala as one of our signature items. And this beautiful graphic can be printed as a Limited Edition koala bib so awareness can be raised when the babies wear them,” she says.
The Koala Hospital was established in 1973 and consists of a treatment room, eight intensive care units, six outdoor intensive care units and 33 rehabilitation yards, many of which have trees for koalas to learn to climb as part of the rehabilitation process.
It is not only a hospital to treat sick and injured koalas but it is also involved in research with University Sydney, University Technology Queensland and the Australian Museum into koala diseases. Between 200 and 250 koalas are admitted through the Hospital annually.
“This is an international venture with Marcus & Marcus distributors all over the world supporting the product item, with a donation going to the hospital from the full factory production,” enthuses Leung.
Indeed, initial feedback from customers has been positive with many buyers showing their support by immediately purchasing the Limited Edition range.
The koala bibs are made from food grade silicone and retail for $21.95 each. They are suitable for little ones aged six months and older and will be available from mid-November.
