Littlelock launches with safe alternatives
Mum Gabrielle Cardwell has launched her own brand of glass food containers after becoming fed up with the lack of safe alternatives to plastic containers.
Littlelock Glasslock containers are the result of nine months of research to find a product that was not only BPA free but could also go in the freezer, microwave and dishwasher.
“I worried about using plastic containers to store my children’s meals,” she explains. “Studies have shown that toxic chemicals including BPA and phthalates can leach from plastic storage containers into food upon heating which is very concerning. As a mum, the thought of toxic chemicals in my children’s food was distressing but there didn’t seem to be any alternatives.”
Cardwell says glass is the safest option for storing and heating baby food because BPA free plastic can still leach chemicals during the heating process and stainless steel products can’t go in the microwave.
As Australia doesn’t yet have safety standards for these types of products, Littlelock Glasslock containers were independently tested in the US to ensure they’re free of BPA, phthalates and lead.
Containers come in 120ml and 210ml sizes with lids in three different colours – the lids must be removed before the glass containers are used in the microwave. There are plans for larger containers in the future.
“Our customers love the safety and the peace of mind that comes from using glass plus the convenience of having one container that can be used to store food in the fridge or freezer, heat in the microwave and transport in the nappy bag when out and about. People are also loving the brightly coloured lids and how beautiful the glass is.”
Littlelock Glasslock containers are available for wholesale.
