Palatable Tea Towels was born out of Melbourne’s extended lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. On the rare occasions when Melburnians were permitted to travel to regional Victoria, Elizabeth Hollingsworth headed to the wine regions of Geelong, Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula to enjoy the scenery, accommodation and other attractions.
Elizabeth wanted to support the wineries who were struggling with a severe drop in visitors.
A lifelong lover and collector of tea towels, Elizabeth designed a range of 7 tea towel maps, each representing a renowned Australian wine region – Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Hunter Valley, Margaret River, Mornington Peninsula, Mudgee and Yarra Valley – to showcase their wineries, hotels and family activities.
Each tea towel features around 15 vineyards, all of which are ranked 4 stars or more by James Halliday Wine Companion and have a cellar door that is open to the public.
There are also around 15 accommodation properties from motels to luxury resorts and 15 local attractions to widen the appeal to a range of tastes and budgets.
Elizabeth commissioned Ballarat illustrator Caroline Keys to create watercolour illustrations, and she is launching Canberra District, Clare Valley, Geelong & The Bellarine Peninsula, McLaren Vale and Tamar Valley at Reed Gift Fair (stand T32, 5-9 August 2023), making 12 tea towels in the range.
