French Consul sees red for its latest homewares range
Christmas is about spending quality time with friends and family and many people will be having lovely lunches and dinners in the comfort of their own home.
So what could be more meaningful for your Christmas table than an artisan-made, locally designed, sustainable linen homewares range in the colour of love?
Just in time for the holidays, handcrafted linen brand French Consul has finally added a red stripe to its homewares collection.
Owner and creative director, Karen Miles, says customers have been asking for years for an alternative to the brand’s classic black stripe.
“Following years of customer and stockist requests for ‘will you ever do a red’?, the provincial styled red grain sack stripe linen is your starting point for any Frenchie or farmhouse interior this season,” she says.
After working on creating the label for six months, French Consul was launched in March 2018. Miles sources her fabric, which is certified, from Europe (linen is grown in France and woven in Ireland) and all products are hand cut and sewn in Australia and Ireland, keeping artisan small businesses alive and their skills treasured in people’s homes.
Seeing her ideas become a reality and being so quickly loved by retailers has been amazing, says Miles.
“It’s fulfilling to look around my studio and be surrounded by something I created and to be making products for Australian retailers and their customers that are handcrafted and support artisans and small businesses.
“We’re seeing a real change from cheaply made products to more and more customers valuing well made products, handcrafted, and Australian made. Ethics aren’t a nice-to-have anymore, there’s a groundswell of people who want to know where products are made and I’m so glad to be part of that shift back to quality manufacturing.
“I launched French Consul because I wanted more of that relaxed French joy of living in my life,” she adds.
“The red stripe has been a long time coming as I wanted to ensure I could source the prettiest of reds with a gorgeous blue/red base that felt relaxed and calming on your table.”
Available for pre-order only, to ensure delivery before Christmas you can order French Consul’s new red stripe Fete table runner ($115) and Provencal tea towel ($34) for delivery this November.
