Dreamfarm’s Orlid spice jar wins Red Dot design award
Aussie kitchen tools and gadgets company, Dreamfarm, has won its sixth Red Dot award for its latest invention, Orlid, a stackable spice jar with a double lid that opens to shake or scoop.
Winning a Red Dot is like winning an Oscar in the design world, says Dreamfarm business development manager, Cate McDermott.
“We are incredibly proud of our design team for being recognised with such a prestigious award,” she enthuses.
“This is now our sixth Red Dot but it never gets old. As an Australian company, we are especially proud to be able to highlight to the world the quality of design grown right here in our own backyard.”
She says that while a win like this is always helpful in terms of brand recognition, it also helps consumers make purchasing decisions in store.
“Putting award logos on our product packaging helps distinguish us from our competitors, it’s the same reason you see wine producers displaying their wins on bottles. It gives the customer confidence in their purchase and in turn increases sales.”
The Red Dot is open to designers worldwide. Once the product design process is complete and we have final manufactured samples, we submit physical product samples to the Red Dot Jury, along with a brief description of the product and its merits, explains McDermott.
“The Red Dot jury, which changes each year, is made up of around 40 independent international experts in design. They then test, discuss, and evaluate each entry individually on its merits before deciding on the winners.”
Orlid is a new stackable spice jar with a double lid that opens to shake or scoop with the touch of a button. It’s compatible with the brand’s Ortwo spice grinder, which also won a Red Dot before its release last year.
“One of my favourite features of Orlid is that it nests in stacks to save space. This also allows you to store and move the jars securely and easily see which spice is which rather than having to pick up each jar to identify what’s in it.”
Winning the Red Dot doesn’t mean the team at Dreamfarm will be taking their foot off the gas any time soon. In addition to Orlid, which will launch mid-year, Dreamfarm will also be relaunching its Oni knife, along with a colander that turns into a salad spinner, and a cheese knife.
“We will also be releasing a gift set of our Good Design Award and gia award-winning Fledge cutting boards, which includes a storage stand, before Christmas. Our best-selling spoons and Red Dot award-winning spatula (Supoon, Mini Supoon and Chopula) will also be coming out in the Pantone colour of the year Classic Blue, which is a beautiful shade of navy and fits perfectly with our current colour spectrum.”
