Design Twins collaborates with local artist on coastal collection
Sydney-based homewares brand and retailer, Design Twins, has collaborated with local artist Jennifer Lia on a range of products inspired by Sydney’s striking coastline.
The limited-edition collection includes 12 original art prints, which are acrylic on canvas and framed in Tasmanian Oak, and concrete plant pots hand painted by Lia with her signature ‘Icebergs’ design.
Lia says she was inspired by her home in Manly and her love of the coast when designing the artwork, which features myriad shades of blue.
“My work is always inspired by the ocean in some way—it is healing, cathartic and magic,” she says. “[I think] everyone has some connection to its awe-inspiring power, fragility and raw beauty.
“This collaboration is the culmination of this. I think people really identify with their local spots—they hold memories and transport you.”
The collection was launched at the Design Twins’ store recently, and founders Crystal Bailey and Mitchel Lindsay say it was a natural fit for both brands.
Bailey and Lindsay started the Design Twins just over three years ago, making concrete homewares to sell at markets. After the introduction of their now signature lightweight pot range, business boomed, and they eventually opened their own Design Twins store.
Along with their own designs, the shop stocks a curated collection of Australian designers and makers and has an in-house studio. There are also plans to open a Design Twins store in Los Angeles later this year.
“As Design Twins continues to expand, we wanted to create a space where we could make our signature pieces while celebrating the best of Australian designers and local artists,” says Bailey.
“A homewares store, featuring our in-house studio, was just the perfect combination for this next step in our journey.”
