Gold Coast-based magazine Ymag and artist Lisa Pollock’s collaboration has resulted in a much coveted spot in the goodie bags that were handed out to Hollywood’s A-list during the Golden Globes recently.
Stars like Oprah, Morgan Freeman and Meryl Streep were gifted a copy of the magazine (with Pollock on the cover) along with an inspirational 2018 planner, with the cover designed by Pollock to help women live their life with purpose.
Ymag founder and CEO Shar Moore says the gift was particularly apt given Oprah’s now well-known speech, which resonates with the very reason for the magazine’s birth as well as why Pollock continues to create from her heart with her empowering affirmations and artworks.
“It was like she (Oprah) was talking about the whole reason YMag exists,” enthuses Moore. “It tells me that I’m in tune and on point with the magazine. It was resoundingly clear, it’s time for women to step up and connect with their why, their purpose.”
Facing bankruptcy off the back of the 2011 Queensland floods, Moore sought inspiration at her local newsagent, looking for a magazine that was ‘real’.
“I found my ‘why’. I want to raise funds for a Thai orphanage so kids can make their own choices for a better life too―I wanted to find a path that would lead me to do that. So I created YMag, a publication about real people and why they do what they do,” says Moore.
Pollock has built her business with the aim to inspire others and to never, ever give up and she says this collaboration is truly in line with the mantra of her business.
“Each affirmation and design is created from my heart in the hope of bringing a little more peace, love, gratitude and laughter into our crazy world,” she says.
“With the influence of these celebrities preaching the exact same thing, I feel this collaboration is a strategic move, not only for my business and building my audience, but creating a positive impact on the world and using artwork to convey it.
“By collaborating with others we have the power to create change. We want everyone to trust and believe in themselves. Just do it. Let all the fear go and enjoy the journey,” adds Pollock.
