The board of the Australian Gift and Homewares Association (AGHA) announced yesterday that it has reluctantly accepted Omer Soker’s resignation as CEO.
Soker was appointed to CEO in November 2014, after working as the executive general manager since December 2013.
In a statement to members, AGHA President Nigel Kirby praised Soker’s work throughout his time with the association, including the addition of a new fair and his strategic business expertise.
“He has led the purchase of Fashion Exposed which has broadened our membership and enhanced the strength and quality of our fairs and he has provided a renewed focus on our membership and the services that are offered,” he says.
“The board wishes Omer well for his future and thanks him for his valuable contribution to our organisation.”
In his time running the industry association, Soker restructured the member services department, sought industry support from government departments and worked on reforming the association’s constitution.
Soker was previously an exhibition director at Reed Gift Fairs, before taking time off to write his book, The Trust Future, which shows companies a more ethical way of doing business.
The AGHA board will soon begin seeking a replacement for Soker and anticipates it will make an announcement before the end of June.
