Klimchi makes debut at Maison&Objet
Designer glassware brand Klimchi made its first appearance at Maison&Objet earlier this month, introducing four new lines by its creative director, Frantisek Jungvirt.
The Czech company, which is known for its hobnail jug, launched its minimalistic Monochrome Edit vases, bold Royal Marika bowls together with two tableware lines―Linea and Crust at the fair.
The glass is handblown in Europe’s oldest factory, which has been around since 1906. Klimchi founder Lukáš Klimčák’s family owned the factory and when he saw the potential of Czech glass he launched the brand in 2019.
“It was very important for me to connect the brand with the tradition of Czech glassmaking, local people and their skills,” he says.
“I think that we have something to be proud of as a nation and we should not be afraid to show it abroad. For me, Klimchi is not about mindlessly following often short-sighted trends, but about creating beautiful and quality products that last.
Intended for long stem flowers and ornate grasses, Monochrome Edit collection seeks the inspiration amid the mountains of Bohemia, says Jungvirt, who joined Klimchi in 2020.
“The main point of this collection compared to the other ranges is the different style of glass,” he says.
“Earthy tones of noire, blanc and olive are softened with sandblasted glass. Dramatic height and long sweeping curves mimicking the soaring silhouette of the poplar tree marks the Monochrome vase as unique amongst our collections.
“The range works really well because of its simplistic shape and the neutral colours. If you would try to use brighter and bolder colours it would lose its appeal,” he adds.
The Royal Marika bowls come in soft shades of light green and underlay blue.
“Gentle ripples radiate from the solid base, capturing and reflecting light, elevating the simple bowl to the level of glass art for the dining table.
“My inspiration for this collection were undulating curves of coastal waves carved into glistening stretches of sand. The bowls come in three sizes, each of them can be featured as a centrepiece and they have been very popular with stylists.
“Our two tableware collections Linea―a collection whose mission is to transform everyday dining into a celebration of contemporary minimalism―and Crust, an impeccable choice for the hard liquor connoisseurs, also did very well at the fair.”
