Made In Australia trade fair to launch in August
With supply chain issues still hampering the industry, it’s now more important than ever to shop local and support the Australian economy.
In fact, there has never been more interest from consumers to buy Australian made. Based on recent Roy Morgan Research, a huge majority (93 per cent) of Australians says they are more likely to buy products made in Australia, up from 87 per cent a year earlier.
The survey also found that nearly three-quarters (74 per cent) of participants are concerned about the number of products sold in Australia that are made overseas.
With this in mind, IEC Group Australia is launching a new trade fair, Made in Australia, a business-to-business event featuring the best of Australian makers and designers.
“Australian designers and makers have extraordinary talent,” enthuses CEO Marie Kinsella.
“Previously, many were forced to produce and create overseas due to minimal capacity and costs here in Australia. The focus is back on being made right here, mainly driven by consumer demand and this event celebrates and showcases the talent and depth Australia can offer to retailers and consumers.
“It’s exciting to get this off the ground and already so many are pleased that we’re offering something different to invigorate our retail landscape.”
Held from Sunday 14 August to Monday 15 August at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush, retailers can source Australian made products in categories such as homewares, fashion, kids, beauty and lifestyle, all in one convenient location.
“We’re eager to support and celebrate emerging and established Australian businesses and their beautiful products, particularly after the challenging environment in the last two years. This is not a one-off event and we aim to grow this show as a great Australian trade event and one that will attract international buyers.”
Brands that have already committed to the event include Corban & Blair, Axis Toys, Thurby, Pollen Australia and To The Playground, which makes and creates sustainable kids craft projects.
Owner PJ Caruso is excited to be a part of a new show that has Australia as the focus. “My product is 100 per cent proudly Australian made and I’ve made a big effort to keep it local,” Caruso says.
“This event really captured my imagination; I loved the fact that its focus was the same as mine and that it gave smaller operators like myself the chance to shine.”
Indeed, Kinsella regularly meets smaller manufacturers who’ve made it clear that while they would like the opportunity to display and showcase their products, they often don’t have the resources to do so.
“This event opens the door to so many of these businesses and supports the move towards a stronger Australian economy.”
