Retail chain Amart is donating $1 million worth of furniture to The Salvation Army, to be distributed to people in Queensland and New South Wales severely affected by the recent floods.
Amart CEO, Lee Chadwick, says the company has a responsibility to give back to areas hardest hit.
“The floods have created devastation for so many people—our communities, our team and our customers,” he says.
“As people now begin the recovery process, charities such as The Salvation Army enable those impacted to get back on their feet. With many people having lost their homes and possessions, we wanted to provide quick and meaningful support to assist The Salvos with their work.”
Salvation Army emergency services and disaster management teams have been helping out in SE Queensland and northern NSW providing food and catering to evacuees and first responders, before providing financial relief in over 30 recovery hubs across flood-effected regions.
“Over 40,000 meals were provided across evacuation sites in the first 10 days of the flood emergency and over $1 million in financial support has already been distributed to those who have lost homes, personal position or livelihoods,” explains Simon Gregory, public relations secretary for The Salvation Army in Queensland.
“The Salvation Army wants to sincerely thank Amart for their very generous donation. These vouchers will be delivered to recovery hubs throughout the flood zone and will be given to families and individuals who in many cases have lost everything.”
