Made By Pen opens new workspace in Brisbane
Following a new partnership with their manufacturing partners, Made By Pen (Pen) is opening a second workspace in Brisbane.
The design studio, which is well known for its signature product The Dog Room, is building on the success that Pen has achieved in Australia with Amy Sellick relocating to manage the new studio, while Susan Chung remains in Melbourne.
The move is especially important for one of its partners, HELP Enterprise, a Queensland not-for-profit organisation that specialises in providing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
HELP has been instrumental in the reboot of The Dog Room, which has been relaunched after selling out its inaugural, award-winning run in 2017. The product’s relaunch coincides with a strengthened commitment on the part of Pen to ethically sourced labour and domestic materials.
Indeed, the decision to manufacture products on-shore, exclusively using Australian materials wherever possible has been 18 months in the making, choosing partners that possess not only the skills but a passion and story behind their craft.
“Pen’s manufacturing partners fit the company’s mantra of ‘good people’ including HELP their social good partners, local family-orientated businesses, woman pioneering workrooms and crafts honed by 40+ years’ experience,” says the company.
