Milk & Masuki makes trade fair debut
Organic cotton baby accessories brand Milk & Masuki has made its first trade fair appearance with an exhibit in Life Instyle’s First Instyle category at the recent Sydney show.
Milk & Masuki is a family business created by Rachael Freeman and Ishak Masukor and run out of their base in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales.
They launched the brand after struggling to find organic cotton baby clothes that were colourful and fun for son Noah.
Prior to showing at First Instyle Milk & Masuki only had a few stockists alongside their online store and weekend market appearances. Since showing at the trade fair they’ve grown that number and had many enquiries.
“We went much better than we anticipated and that means that now we’re working like crazy trying to fill orders,” says Masukor. “The response that we had was really, really positive and it was interesting to see the different kinds of people who found our products really appealing, so lots of the design based stores were really excited by our products.”
Products available from Milk & Masuki include blankets, wraps and bibs with geometric prints and gender-neutral colours. Most are screen printed by hand at their home studio with some blankets also printed by hand at a boutique printery in Sydney.
The label will expand its range later this year with t-shirts, onesies and jumpsuits. All products are aimed at newborns to two year olds.
Milk & Masuki plans to return to Life Instyle in Melbourne this August. It hopes to make wholesaling a major part of the business and believes its products fit best in design-oriented stores.
“The kind of retailer we generally look for is that boutique shop which carries products in a similar aesthetic so design high-end shops. We are a luxury product and we are a design product so those kind of shops we found are best for us.”
