Eco retailer opens its first Melbourne store
In line with its eco-friendly business model, Biome is opening a new store this month at Burwood Brickworks, a sustainable shopping centre.
The eco retailer is dedicated to protecting the environment via an ethical and innovative retail business model and by providing an extensive range of thoroughly-evaluated environmentally and socially-responsible products.
The business was founded in 2003 by Tracey Bailey and now employs 80 people across its online store and six stores located in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Melbourne.
Bailey says opening a store in Melbourne was the next logical step to expand Biome’s brick and mortar stores beyond Queensland.
“Melbourne is certainly a city that has always been on the horizon,” she explains.
“We’ve received considerable demand from our Melbourne customers and social media followers, and when we heard about this sustainable shopping centre, we knew Biome had to be part of it.”
The multi-award winning retailer is furthering its environmental impact bringing hundreds of sustainable and palm oil free solutions to the area and providing employment for more than 10 Melbourne residents.
“Burwood Brickworks aims to be the most sustainable shopping centre in the world accredited under the Living Building Challenge. The centre is naturally powered by renewable resources and incorporates grey and black water recycling, organic waste composting, and a 2,000sqm rooftop farm,” Bailey enthuses.
Sustainable and natural materials were used for Biome’s store fitout including FSC-certified Australian timbers, cork cladding and even light shades grown on demand from mycelium fungus.
It will house the retailer’s signature Naked Beauty Bar offering customers zero waste bulk natural ingredients, along with an extensive range of plastic free, toxin free, composting, and ethical products.
“Being part of Burwood Brickworks is a wonderful reinforcement of Biome’s reputation, as well as meeting a need for our customers.”
The new store is located at 78 Middleborough Road, Burwood East.
