Screen printed accessories and homewares label, One Thousand Lines, launched to trade at Life Instyle Melbourne last weekend.
The Adelaide-based business is the brainchild of Irena and Alen Levak who make all their products from start to finish in their home studio.
They currently produce scarves, bags, tea towels and lamps with screen printed designs inspired by nature.
“We love going on hikes [and] wandering around the Adelaide Hills looking for patterns, shapes and collecting plants to use as inspiration for our designs,” says Irena.
“We [also] get inspired by other artists and designers, but bouncing ideas off each other is where the inspiration comes most often.”
Creating the products by hand means the pair has total control over the finished product, and they enjoy being able to work together while being close to their two sons.
“We [are] involved in every step of the creative process and production, from the initial sketch to drawing and designing the pattern, exposing screens, mixing inks, screen printing, sewing and finishing with leather work.
“That allows us to focus on every detail and enables us to continually change and evolve our products.”
The Levaks also want to support other local businesses and so all the fabrics and materials they use—which includes organic cotton, hemp and 100 per cent linen—are sourced from Australian companies.
After selling at markets and gathering a collection of South Australian stockists, the pair decided it was time to take the business interstate by exhibiting at Life Instyle.
“[It] seemed like a natural progression in growing our business…We are aiming to get our products into well curated stores and galleries that mainly sell Australian-made products and designs.
“We would love to find and establish long-lasting relations with interstate retailers who are well suited for our products.”
