Pet products dominate the export market
With pet accessories enjoying increasing popularity worldwide, Thailand has recognised there is a significant export opportunity into this growing market which is one not to be missed.
Particularly in Japan no cost is too high for our furry friends, with an estimated market value of 386,900 million yen in 2016.
This has led the Thai Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) to introduce Pet Parade to the BIG + BIH fair, which was held from 19 to 21 April this year.
“The DITP Pet Parade project has been implemented in a full service from product and service development to running marketing and promotional campaigns,” says Malee Choklumlerd, director-general DITP, Ministry of Commerce.
The pet zone exhibits innovative products specifically designed for pets― including fashion and lifestyle items, food, and personal care products―and aims to promote Thailand’s export industry, she explains.
“The project has enabled Thailand’s pet manufacturers to gain recognition and place their products in leading department stores in Japan, namely Tokyo Hands, and other specialty stores around Japan. In addition, Thailand’s pet products have achieved market penetration in other countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore and the US.
“However, DITP still intends to expand Thailand’s pet product export in many other countries,” adds Choklumlerd. “One of the strategies implemented to fulfil this goal is organising Pet Parade BIG + BIH 2017.”
A special pet fashion show was also held for the first time at the fair to promote Pet Parade exhibitors’ products and pique international buyers’ interests.
