Aurora, the new resin vase collection from Melbourne brand Capra Designs, grew out of the challenges that artists face when working with this medium.
While creating the range, maker Bianca Lambert discovered two common problems she wanted to address: reducing wastage and not compromising on creativity.
During the production of her pots, Lambert found excess resin was accumulating quickly and being disposed of, leading to lots of lost material. “It became obvious that a new product could rise up from this wastage and by producing this new product, overall wastage was drastically minimised,” she says.
By creating new vases from a by-product of her other works, Lambert found a way to make her pots unique and her business more cost effective and ecofriendly, something she is passionate about.
Her second challenge was to maintain creativity while making the vases, something that is vital as each Capra Designs’ product is different in shape, size, pour technique and colour.
“I’m sure many makers reaching the production stage of a collection yearn to be back in design mode,” says Lambert. “I have felt the same way [but] with the creation of the vases I am still designing during production because the pieces are borne from the production stage.”
The vases have been inspired by conscious production, and Lambert says their value lies in their uniqueness.
Capra Designs also produces plant hangers and stands. The products are available now.
