Iittala and Issey Miyake partner for homewares collection
In a match made in design heaven, Iittala has teamed up with Issey Miyake for its latest range, the Iittala X Issey Miyake home collection which includes ceramics, glass and home textiles.
Built on the idea of bringing harmony to our everyday lives, the collection is the perfect fusion of these iconic design teams.
Both brands are well known for their creativity and innovative designs, sharing similar values and design philosophies.
“The two brands have always been true to their philosophy of timeless design and creative thinking,” says Harri Koskinen, design director of Iittala.
“They also value tradition, functionality, craftsmanship and the use of innovative materials and methodologies in their design work.”
The textile products were created based on Issey Miyake’s original folding and pleating techniques that have been used in its designs since the late 1980s―the flat shape gets transformed into a 3D design using the best materials available to keep the folds and pleats in place.
“The continuous research and development seen in the fashion designs of Issey Miyake is now crystallised in the collaboration project with Iittala,” adds Midori Kitamura, president of Miyake Design Studio.
“The textile items are created using not only the latest technology to fold and pleat the material but also delicate handwork. The pentagon shape suggests a non-daily element. We hope this will bring a special moment.”
The collection is the first collaboration for Iittala and the Miyake Design Studio and will be available in stores from October 2016.
