Porchlight Brand Management launches to trade
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Flight 001 products are now available to Australian retailers after Porchlight Brand Management added a wholesale arm to the business.
The company, which also operates The Metropolitan Museum of Art store in Sydney and Melbourne and the Flight 001 store in Sydney, debuted to trade at Melbourne Reed Gift Fair earlier this month.
“We knew they were great products that we had sourced and sold in our stores for a number of years and we felt that they would do well in other stores and markets that our own retail operation didn’t reach,” says Stephen Nagle, Porchlight CEO. “When we considered it we felt we could talk about the products with confidence and sell them easily because we know which parts of the range are bestsellers for some parts of the market and which are bestsellers for other parts of the market.”
Retailers responded well to Porchlight’s first gift fair appearance and were particularly interested in the MoMA products. The brand’s signature Christmas cards were a strong seller.
Porchlight’s products extended beyond the gift and lifestyle retail sector with pharmacies and newsagents attracted to the Knirps umbrella brand.
“I think basically the Australian consumer in a lot of retail markets is very well travelled and the couple of brands we’re working with – Flight 001 and MoMA – are both New York based brands and a lot of people are familiar with [them].
“The brands do have a recognition that is higher in the market than perhaps even we first thought – great design, good pricing. I think it’s a product that hasn’t been available in the market before and people seem to be interested in it.”
Porchlight’s brand portfolio is centred on labels with a design focus at accessible prices.
