Ute Design gives traditional letterboxes a makeover
The humble letterbox has gone from plain and boring to modern and funky thanks to the new Arko Letterbox by Ute Design.
Designer Kain Lucas decided to give the old standard a new look when he noticed most houses don’t invest in a new letterbox despite putting a lot of resources into building or restoring homes.
“A beautiful letterbox is one of those details that’s like putting the cherry on top of the cake,” he says. “It sits right at the front of the house and it gets used every day. After doing some research I found that there wasn’t much choice on the market, and anything decent was ridiculously priced, so I decided to create a really cool and fun letterbox that would last, be attractive to both contemporary and heritage home owners and at a reasonable price point.”
The result is a classic letterbox shape with a contemporary feel and rust proof Zincalume and zinc primer under the powder coated finish – this means it will never rust. It is also available in a range of colours. Customers have the choice of bright and contemporary shades such as red and yellow or colorbond colours in surfmist white or woodland grey.
“Both ranges can be combined with either a white or grey mail slot giving a total of 16 two tone colour combinations. I wanted to make this product attractive to both heritage and contemporary home owners by offering colour combinations that can be matched to the colour scheme of the house, or represent your taste through your favourite colour.”
While mainly aimed at renovators and home builders Lucas believes design fans will love the chance to update their ‘old shabby letterbox for a cool new one in [their] favourite colour’.
“The response has been very strong on the bright colours, particularly the orange and green,” he adds. “My retailers are also very excited about them, and they are going to be featured in a window installation at Make Designed Objects in Carlton throughout April.”
