Anita Harris Art Pottery launches in Australia
critically acclaimed ceramicist anita harris has visited australia to help her local wholesalers launch their business.
the english artist established her pottery company in partnership with samantha johnson after working with moorcroft’s cobridge stoneware and as head of design at poole pottery.
her pieces were discovered by bill and malar fraser during a buying trip to the uk. they fell in love with colours and felt the birght yellows, oranges and reds had a particular connection to australia.
“we became friends with her team almost immediately and brought a test quantity of vases and animal models back to australia to see how our customers responded, as we saw the colours as a ‘reflection of australia’,” bill says.
anita harris art pottery australia officially launched at the sydney home & giving fair attended by the artist herself.
"i was very impressed by my first home and giving show in australia and may well do another one in the near future," harris says. "i had an excellent and unexpected turnout of potential customers, but meeting them face to face is something i could never possibly do using normal methods of advertising."
harris – who has had a design chosen to go on display at buckingham palace for the queen’s diamond jubilee – also saw some sights to collect inspiration for an australian collection.
“anita was wrapped with the overall results and we have new retailers in almost every state [and in] new zealand which was a nice surprise and some of the first orders are already on their way to the stores concerned, as each order is hand made on request at anita’s factory in stoke on trent in the uk," adds bill.
