Nooks breaks into overseas market
an australian created and designed collectible toy called nooks has kicked off its international expansion by recently launching in canada.
jacman design developed nooks three years ago to fill the gap in the market for collectible toys suited to both boys and girls as well as motivate customers to repeat purchase as new designs are added every month.
business development manager jenny berry says canada was chosen as the first overseas market because of a combination of business contacts and the country's strong collectible market.
"we felt canada has a huge following for collectibles – always has – so we saw that as a natural progression to put the product [there]," she says. "we also have working relationships with companies in canada so they were very interested in launching nooks."
the product will further its reach into the canadian market with a launch in quebec in july.
it's baby steps for the international expansion of the brand which hit australian stores just three years ago. jacman design does plan to get the product into other overseas markets but will concentrate on consolidating canada first.
nooks has acquired a following locally but interest in the toys, which each have a name, star sign and abilities, is still growing.
"they're still gaining momentum in australia. collectibles do take a long time to get off the ground as far as getting them established as a recognisable brand within the market, but we've got them in every state," explains berry.
"we also have a web based information site and we're getting more members every month on that site as well and we've certainly got very positive [expectations] about the growth of nooks and the direction we're going in and they're becoming more and more popular. the more they become recognisable obviously the more popular it's going to become."
