Great Dane Furniture at Saturday in Design
inspired by the close working relationship among product, process and craftsman, great dane’s theme for saturday in design is materiality: make, create, play.
benjamin hubert, saturday in design’s only international guest, will be leading workshops about his process and materials at 10 am, 1 pm and 4 pm.
the young and energetic english industrial designer is known for pushing boundaries yet maintaining a simple and organic aesthetic.
hubert will also be guest lecturing at university of technology, sydney during his visit.
the process is often just as intriguing as the end product: local artisans will be papercording by hand and shaping cork in the showroom. these tactile experiences will be an opportunity for guests to see firsthand the time and effort that goes into producing handmade furniture.
guests will also able to participate in a collaborative project about the future of design to celebrate the exclusive launch of hubert’s roofer and chimney in australia.
the day will begin with a traditional welcome ceremony from a local indigenous elder to honour redfern’s roots.
a pop-up farmers market featuring producers from the eveleigh market (to be confirmed) will provide high-quality food with an emphasis on freshness and local sourcing. blood orange campari granitas will also be served as part of the emphasis on seasonal products.
throughout the day, great dane will give away signed, framed prints of benjamin hubert’s sketches, rosendahl wooden animals, a two-night stay at southern ocean lodge, kangaroo island and a few other surprises.
great dane furniture is australia’s premier emporium of scandinavian design.
