67 layers of steel launched at the homewares show
UK knife design company Edge of Belgravia launched three ranges at the International Home and Housewares show in Chicago last week.
The collections – Ceramics Lime, Ceramics Onyx and Damascus steel – have been designed by London designer Christian Bird and while they are currently only available online, they already have quite the following.
“The head chef of the Ritz restaurant, John Williams, loves our knives as well as Mark Farr, executive head chef at the Carlton Club,” says Ceridwen Davies, press officer. “We also sent a set to the Queen for her Golden Jubilee.”
The knives are also endorsed by Whitney Miller and Jennifer Behm, who were the US MasterChef winners of series one and two respectively. Behm even made an appearance at the show and cooked up a storm on the Edge of Belgravia stand.
“The main advantage of the ceramic knives is you don’t have to sharpen them, so they are ideal for professional chefs. The Damascus steel blades consist of 67 layers of steel, which makes its sharpness second to none.”
Only in business for two years, the homewares show was the company’s first trade fair and Davies says they were happy with the feedback and interest including from Australia – they have one distributor, Wilkinson Trading Group, and are looking for more down under.
Retail prices range from US$40 to US$112 per knife or you can buy a set of five for close to US$400.
A fourth range of knives is planned for release mid-year.
