3Fish wins at United Nations environment day awards
ethical clothing company 3fish has been honoured by the united nations association of australia at its world environment day awards in melbourne.
the woodend based company won the sustainability leadership award for small to medium organisations.
the award recognises 3fish’s work to create garments that are certified organic, carbon neutral and made using fair trade principles.
managing director marty dillon says they are thrilled by the acknowledgement.
“we are immensely proud to say we have a world class ethical supply chain in place and we are ready to assist any organisation in australia make ethical clothing and merchandise a reality,” he says.
business partner and wife natalie dillon is equally impressed.
“the universal declaration of human rights takes pride of place on the wall of our office, so to receive this award from the united nations is an incredible honour,” she says.
3fish creates merchandise for a range of organisations and has products in about 80 stockists in australia. the clothes are designed locally and made in india.
marty has seen the manufacturing process of his garments first hand.
“i’ve met the small scale farmers who are now able to provide for their families because of fair trade. i have seen the benefits of organic farming and the elimination of hazardous chemicals, pesticides and chemicals from our process. i know the ginners, the spinners and the makers,” he says.
the world environment day awards are in their 12th year and recognise action taken locally to deal with global environmental issues.
