1976/77 – Pet Rocks
Television personality Denise Drysdale helped launch Pet Rocks in Australia in the mid-1970s. The product was created by an advertising manager who tired of his friends complaining about their pets. It’s believed he made $1 million dollars from it in 10 months with the pet rock so popular special cemeteries were set up to give them a proper send off when the time came. Australian pet rocks were a native breed – Victorian river-smooth black rocks.
